Child Of The Civil Rights Movement is a powerful and moving memoir of a young girl growing up in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. This book is a Junior Library Guild Selection.

The author, Joyce Ladner, was born in 1943 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her father was a sharecropper and her mother was a domestic worker. Ladner grew up in a segregated world, where she was constantly reminded of her second-class status.

Despite the challenges she faced, Ladner was a bright and ambitious child. She attended segregated schools, but she excelled in her studies. She was also active in the Civil Rights Movement, participating in sit-ins and protests.

In 1963, Ladner was one of the first African American students to integrate the University of Mississippi. Her experience there was both challenging and rewarding. She faced discrimination and hostility from some white students and faculty, but she also made friends and allies who supported her.

Ladner graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1967. She went on to earn a doctorate in sociology from Washington University in St. Louis. She has taught at several universities and has written extensively about the Civil Rights Movement.

Child Of The Civil Rights Movement is a deeply personal account of a young girl's coming-of-age during a turbulent time in American history. Ladner's memoir is a powerful reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement. It is a must-read for anyone interested in American history, the Civil Rights Movement, or the experiences of African Americans in the United States.
