Çetin's grandmother, Anahid, was born in the Ottoman Empire in 1895, just a few years before the outbreak of the Armenian Genocide. Anahid's family was forced to flee their home during the genocide, and she spent the rest of her life as a refugee in Turkey.
Çetin, who was born in Turkey in 1950, grew up hearing stories about her grandmother's experiences. She was fascinated by her grandmother's strength and resilience, and she wanted to learn more about the history of her family and the Armenian Genocide.
In "My Grandmother," Çetin combines her own memories with archival research to tell the story of her grandmother's life. She paints a vivid picture of the Ottoman Empire, the Armenian Genocide, and the aftermath of the genocide.
"My Grandmother" is a powerful and moving memoir that sheds light on a little-known chapter of history. It is a story of love, loss, and resilience that will stay with readers long after they finish reading it.
