About the Author
María Cristina Mena was born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1893. She began writing at a young age, and her first novel, La hermana menor, was published in 1928. Mena went on to publish several more novels, as well as numerous short stories, essays, and plays.
Mena's work has been translated into several languages, and she has received numerous awards and honors, including the Colombian National Prize for Literature in 1958. She died in Bogotá in 1965.
