In her new memoir, 977 Days Captive, Buchanan recounts her harrowing experience and the lessons she learned about herself and the world. She writes about the fear and uncertainty of her first days in captivity, the loneliness and despair of being held for so long, and the strength and resilience that she found within herself.

Jessica Buchanan, Author Of '977 Days Captive' The Desert And The Sea: 977 Days Captive On The Somali Pirate Coast

Buchanan's story is a testament to the power of hope. Even in the darkest of times, she never gave up on the belief that she would one day be rescued. She clung to this hope even when her captors told her that she would never see her family again. And in the end, her hope was realized.

977 Days Captive is a gripping and inspiring memoir that will stay with you long after you finish it. It is a story of survival, hope, and the indomitable human spirit.

In her own words

In an interview with the BBC, Buchanan said that she wrote 977 Days Captive to share her story with the world and to inspire others who may be going through difficult times.

"I wanted to show people that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope," she said. "I also wanted to share the lessons I learned about myself and the world during my time in captivity."

Buchanan said that one of the most important lessons she learned is that "hope is a powerful thing." She said that even when she was feeling hopeless, she always clung to the belief that she would one day be rescued.

"Hope is what kept me going," she said. "It gave me the strength to survive."
