Ahmed's Early Life

Ahmed was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1990. His father was a doctor, and his mother was a teacher. Ahmed had a happy childhood, and he loved to play soccer with his friends.

But in 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq, and Ahmed's life was turned upside down. His father was killed in the fighting, and his family was forced to flee their home. They spent the next several years living in refugee camps in Jordan and Syria.

Life in the refugee camps was difficult. Ahmed and his family often went hungry, and they were frequently sick. Ahmed also had to deal with the psychological trauma of war. He saw terrible things, and he lost many of his friends.
