I was born in a small barrio in East Los Angeles. My parents were immigrants from Mexico, and we lived in poverty. My father worked long hours at a factory, and my mother stayed home to take care of me and my siblings. We lived in a small, rundown house, and we often had to go without food. I remember being hungry all the time.

When I was 10 years old, my father was killed in a car accident. My mother was devastated, and she had to work two jobs to support us. I helped out as much as I could, but it was still hard to make ends meet. I remember one time when we had to go to the food bank to get food. I was so embarrassed, but I knew that I had to do whatever it took to help my family.

Despite all of the challenges I faced, I was determined to get a good education. I studied hard and got good grades. I also participated in extracurricular activities, such as debate and student government. I knew that education was my ticket out of poverty.

After I graduated from high school, I went to college on a scholarship. I majored in political science, and I was active in student government. I also interned for a local congressman. After I graduated from college, I went to law school. I knew that I wanted to be a lawyer so that I could help others who were facing the same challenges that I had faced.

After I graduated from law school, I worked as a public defender. I represented low-income clients who were facing criminal charges. I saw firsthand the impact that poverty and violence had on people's lives. I was determined to do everything I could to help my clients get their lives back on track.

In 2016, I ran for Congress. I won the election, and I became the first Latina to represent my district. I am now serving my second term in Congress. I am proud to represent my community and to fight for the issues that matter to them. I am committed to working to make a difference in the lives of others.

My journey from the barrio to Capitol Hill has been a long and challenging one. But I am grateful for the opportunities that I have been given. I am committed to using my voice to help others who are facing the same challenges that I have faced. I believe that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
