Synopsis
Never Grow Up is a haunting tale of lost innocence and the power of memory. Mary Matsuda Gruenewald's debut novel is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant story that will stay with readers long after they finish reading it.
The novel tells the story of Maya, a young girl growing up in a small town in the Midwest. Maya is a bright and curious child, but she is also sensitive and withdrawn. She has a difficult time fitting in with her peers, and she often feels like an outsider.
Maya's life is turned upside down when she is sexually abused by her stepfather. The abuse has a profound impact on Maya, and she begins to withdraw from the world. She becomes depressed and anxious, and she has difficulty trusting others.
As Maya gets older, she tries to forget about the abuse, but she can't. The memories of what happened to her continue to haunt her, and she struggles to find peace and happiness.
Never Grow Up is a powerful and moving story about the lasting effects of child abuse. Gruenewald writes with great sensitivity and insight, and she creates a complex and sympathetic character in Maya. The novel is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the devastating impact of child abuse.
